Before we dive in, I wanted to to provide a few quick notes about our mission and what you can expect from us:
We’re going to err on the side of excitement. We are Chia maxis. We believe that Bram, Gene, and team have created revolutionary technology, crafted a brilliant strategy, and put together a crack team.
Vibe matters and we’re not going to kill it. We’ve built and worked with lots of startups. We know that it’s hard and the game is won by constant improvement. Because of this, we’ll tend to view things through an enthusiastic and understanding lens.
Bullet points will be high level. The goal of this letter is to share a very short update on things that we tracked over the week. Think of it as us sharing our notes on the Chia ecosystem. Our goal will be 500-1,000 words (net of this blurb), and we’ll typically link to outside sources for more information. Today might be a little longer than future issues.
With that out of the way, here’s the first weekly update!
High-level update:
It’s been a crazy week, with most markets seeing a flight towards safety from risk-on assets. Despite being hot off of a groundbreaking week of releases, including offer files and multiple DEXes, Chia was not exempt from the pain. We’re currently hovering around all-time lows and it hurts that the world doesn’t seem to see what we see. But there’s a silver lining to the situation: It’s times like these that separate the doers from the talkers.
Luckily, we know where we stand on this spectrum. The team is doers. The community is doers. And thanks to Bram, Gene, and team, we’re working with a platform that is primed to advance multiple industries in ways previously not thought possible. Let’s pause for a second to remember why we believe:
Chia has developed a true Nakamoto consensus that simultaneously allows anyone to participate on virtually any device, while using a tiny fraction of the energy used by other Nakamoto consensus protocols.
As a result of the above, Chia is currently the most decentralized blockchain in history, even while hitting all time lows. This chain is anti-fragile and this can not be over-stated. What other POW or POS coin would maintain nearly all of its security after dropping 95% in price? The answer is none.
Chialisp and the coin set model are revolutionary. You hear the naysayers talk about how Chialisp is harder to use than Solidity. That is true. But what they don’t tell you is that products built using Chialisp are easier to use. We’re walking into a world where offer files, DID, and more are about change the way we think about crypto. It’s about to change gaming. It’s about to change fundraising. And it’s about to change countless other models where trust is required to coordinate effort.
The business model is outstanding. The pre farm is a feature, not a bug. They have funding. XCH is a commodity. And they will foster more trust than any crypto before. Chia has a HBS case study ffs.
The work is only beginning. Every new technology platform sees an excess of investment (when people realize how big the industry *could* be), followed by a crash back to reality (when people realize we’re not quite there *yet*), followed by a smaller group of winners who do *get there* when all of the best talent in the industry rallies around the best technology and execution. It happened with railroads. It happened with freeways. It happened with the Web. And now it will happen with crypto. This is referred to as an “S-curve” and you can read more about it here.
All that is to say, Chia has a legendary team building legendary technology with a legendary plan. The thesis has not changed one bit.
It’s time to press on. Chia will sprout through the ashes.

Announced a Partnership with Clovyr.io to provide browser based Chialisp dev environment. [more]
Announced a partnership with Akash Network to allow farmers to monetize their unused plotting power and will likely power some very innovative plotting-as-a-service products. [more]
JM posted a Chia farming workload analysis. TLDR: farming is a GREAT use for used HDDs and does not degrade hardware. [more]
Announced an upcoming Chialisp developer competition. It starts at Noon PT on February 3rd. There’s almost $20k up for grab. [more]
Ecosystem News:
Space Marmots launched the initial batch of the SM1 tokens and they sold out quickly. More of this batch (which allows buyers to set the royalty address) will be released next week. This is the first NFT project to launch on Chia. [
more].Marvelous Marmots also launched their NFT project. There are still 19 of the first 100 available. [more]
Hashgreen posted an update and said they’d soon be launching a trading API for traders and market makers. They’ve also been adding new tokens like SM1 and Okra. The team is moving fast.
Offerbin has been making steady improvements to their UI including indicators for private offers, unit cost, and more. They are clearly an integral part to this early Chia ecosystem.
Okra launched a token for a hobby project and got inundated with interest. They’ve completed their first airdrop and are now listed on Hashgreen.
SpaceBucks has seen heathy volume on Hashgreen.
Nearly 150 CATs (Chia Asset Tokens) have been launched on XCH, so there are too many to list here, but step over to Twitter and you’re bound to find them.
